Responsibilities

  • Data analysts will work across data collections, pivoting between discrete tasks with defined deadlines and longer-term projects as needed
  • The technical skills required and developed while working on different initiatives will be similar across the data collections, but analysts will learn the nuances of each data collection and how to apply their skills accordingly

About the Job

The largest database of demographic and health survey data in the world is freely available online thanks to IPUMS. These data are used by thousands of academics worldwide, and you can help this public good grow and improve. We are looking to add one or more data analysts (Researcher 2) to our group of information technology and research experts.

We are searching for a technically inclined individual that enjoys working with data and has a rapid rate of learning new information and abilities. The ideal applicant is a self-starter who is motivated to solve issues and gain competence with IPUMS data. They also know when to ask questions, can explain difficult material, have experience working together on projects, and can clearly express progress.

The data analyst(s) will work with a larger team that supports the Time Use, Health Surveys, CPS, and IPUMS USA IPUMS collections. While each of these data collection projects has its own specific deliverables and problems, they all share a common foundation. When necessary, data analysts will switch between discrete jobs with set deadlines and longer-term projects while working on various data collections. Analysts will gain knowledge of the specifics of each data collection and how to use them, but the technical abilities they will need to work on several initiatives will be similar.

It will be expected of analysts to hone their domain knowledge in a specific subset of technological applications, thematic areas, and/or data collections. They should then use this knowledge to create documentation and dissemination materials that are intended for a user audience.
